    Henrik Ibsen
    Henrik Ibsen

    (March 20, 1828 - May 23, 1906)
Henrik Johan Ibsen has been named the "father of modern drama" for his forays into realism in theatre. Towards the beginning of his career, he experimented with the "drama of ideas," putting his own beliefs into the central themes of his plays. Through plays such as "A Doll's House" and "Ghosts," he delivered an unflattering view of repressed Victorian life, which earned him a great deal of disrespect; however, he continued to challenge the morality of his time more with each play. Nonetheless, he died at the end of an enviable dramatic career.
