    H. G. Wells
    H. G. Wells

    (Sept. 21, 1866 - Aug. 3, 1946)
    H. G. Wells' fascination with literature began at the age of seven when, bedridden with a broken leg, he passed his time reading. After a long period of schooling and unfulfilling jobs, Wells began writing new rules for the popular "war games" of the time. He wrote his first novel, "Anticipations," in 1901, still famous for the social accuracies and scientific inaccuracies of his predictions. He received acclaim in his time both for his science-fiction novels and his more mainstream works. His later works became increasingly more pessimistic up until his death - his last words were "I'm all right."
