David McCullough's new hardcover is a hit

By Bob Minzesheimer, USA TODAY

The e-book versions of 20 of the top 50 books on USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list this week outsold the print editions. One of the exceptions: The Greater Journey, David McCullough's new history of Americans in Paris, which lands at No. 25. The hardcover (listed at $37.50) far outsold the $19.99 e-version.

Michael Norris of Simba Information, a market research firm, isn't surprised: "Part of the reason companies like Harlequin have done more with digital sales is the relationship people have with the content. A consumer might read a 200-page historical romance novel in an afternoon and buy another straight away, but with something like John Adams (one of McCullough's earlier best sellers) you're more likely to take your time with it and put it on a shelf to lend to someone or read it again."
