Charles Dickens

(Feb. 7, 1812 - June 9, 1870)
Charles John Huffman Dickens was a great supporter of the lower classes, and wrote about them both in his novels and his nonfiction works such as "A Coalminer's Evidence." Coming from a lower-class background himself, Dickens' financial situation improved when he became a journalist under the pseudonym "Boz." In his later years, he toured various theatres, giving readings of his more famous novels. He died of a stroke, leaving his work-in-progress "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" unfinished.
